MEATH’S ANSWER TO STRICTLY COME DANCING 2011

2nd Annual ‘Meaths Answer To Strictly Come Dancing’

If  you were luck enough to attend last year’s amazing event,  you’ll be delighted to know that practicing for this years event is well underway.   Following from the huge success of last year’s event, the launch of Meath’s Answer To Strictly Come Dancing 2011 took place in Beggys’ Bar Navan. 28 local competitors were pair up on the night and compete to take the crown from last years winners Noreen Walsh & Fr Derek Derby who won with their very energetic remediation of a Charleston dance to the song ‘Fat Sams grand Slam’ from the famous Bugsy Malone movie.

The judges for this years event are Sorcha Furlong (Fair City), Pat Mullaney, Navan Shopping Centre, Fiona Carroll, St Pauls School, & 2010 Winners Noreen Walsh & Derek Darby. Some of the competitors are Mary Power & Michael Smith, Brian Smith & Cathy Martin, Niamh Carroll & Conor O Connor, Olivia Duff & Patrick Reilly. All money raised will go towards Mother of Peace Orphanage in Illovo SA, which is home to 80 orphaned and vulnerable children, many of whom are HIV positive. It is located on an old sugar plantations and current funding is going towards the competition of a new house. Each unit is home to 6 children and a house mother. Monthly donations provide vital medication, food and car for all the children. During this difficult time of world wide recession, Friends of Mother of Peace here in Ireland are the only group currently sending money to the orphanage. Friends of Mother of Peace was established by a group of Irish people from and Meath who wanted to help and raise money for this worthy cause. The event will take place on Sunday 20th March at 7.30pm in the Knightbrook Hotel Trim. There will also be dancing into the wee hours after the event with The Supertones.
