Meath’s Answer to Strictly Come Dancing proved to be huge success on Saturday night at the Knightbrook Hotel. The room was charged with anticipation as the couples took to the floor and entertained the crowd. From jives and tangos to Charleston dances, the 12 couples put their weeks of practices into operation giving the celebrity judges something to think about. Almost a thousand people cheered every step of the way making the atmosphere electric. MC Peader Farrelly did a tremendous job on the evening interviewing the coupes and judges. Each couple showed talent worthy of winning but the ultimate couple on the night as chosen by the audience was Noreen Walshe and Fr Derek Darby with their very energetic remediation of a Charleston dance to the song ‘Fat Sams grand Slam’ from the famous Bugsy Malone movie. The worthy winners were each presented with a beautiful crystal trophy whilst each participant received a smaller trophy as a memento of the evening. The committee of Mother of Peace Childrens Home would like to thank all the couples that gave up their time to practice and participate in the event, a special thanks to chorographers, Robert & Adrian (Steppin Out), Genevieve & Martin Dolan and Gus Callaghan for their expertise. Shay Casserelly and Raymond Egan along with MG Audio and DJ Donal Norton turned the evening into a production fit for TV3. The evening was also supported by Ann and Paul Smith, Flowers by Design, McGarry Tiles & Bathrooms, Navan Racecourse, T & J Gavigan Auctioneers, Knightsbrook Hotel and Mark Sheehan from Clickstream for the website. Winners Derek & Noreen would like to thank Ribbon Rouge, The Glass Slipper, Helen Moriarty and Azure Hair Studio for transforming them into the Charleston era. Money raised will go towards Mother of Peace Orphanage in Illovo SA, which is home to 60 orphaned and vulnerable children, many of whom are HIV positive. . If you would like further information on the charity or would like to help with fund raising please log on to www.motherofpeace.ie for details.
